The average manicurist in India spends $2,000 to $2.5,000 per manicure and up to $15,000 for a full-blown, top-of-the-line treatment, according to the Indian National Foundation for Women (INFID).
It’s also expensive for a typical client to have their manicure done by someone who doesn’t know the patient, said Manish Gupta, a Mumbai-based consultant who has done manicures for clients in India and the U.S. Gupta said the manicure is expensive to do because the client is paying a higher price for a manicure that’s not going to get done.
The Indian government has recently started making changes to the way it approves manicurists.
Previously, a doctor who was accredited to practice in the country had to be a native of India.
Today, that requirement is no longer necessary and the government is considering removing it altogether, Gupta said.
The National Foundation of Women also offers a service called “Marriage and Family Medicine” to help Indian patients find and access affordable manicures.
It’s a one-on-one consultation that takes place on a Skype call.
Gupta, who works in India with the Indian Society for Marrow Transplantation, said it’s a good service, and he’s seen some of his clients get a manicurism done in India.
“Some of the clients come in and say, ‘I’m going to go for a good manicure in Mumbai.’
And the doctor is saying, ‘OK, let’s see what you can afford.’
It’s quite common, especially for older people, for them to be looking for a quality manicure,” Gupta said, adding that there’s no charge for the services provided.
“The fee is not a huge issue for most of the people.
They get the manicures done for a fee and the service is free.
If they need to go back home, they get to go to the hospital, which is cheaper.
But they do need to see the person they’re going to be getting the manicurization from, and if they have any concerns, they’re welcome to ask for it,” Gupta added.
Some of India’s most popular manicures are made by the same company that makes the popular Valium.
The manicure at this Las Vegas hotel spa costs $5,400.
In addition to the high prices, many Indian clients are having trouble finding the right manicure for them.
The Indian government recently changed its licensing criteria for the industry, which allows some practitioners to practice for six years, but it has been a slow process, said Gupta.
Many Indian patients don’t understand how much money it costs to get a quality appointment, he said.
Gupta said the prices are so high that they can be hard to afford for some people, especially those who are looking for manicures and aren’t wealthy.
Indian patients often find themselves with no options to get the care they need, said Dr. D. Ravi, a family physician in New Delhi who has been working in the industry for more than 25 years.
“It’s a very, very difficult issue for a patient to understand how to pay for it.
We have to explain to them that there are some options, but they can’t go to any one of them,” he said, explaining that he can’t recommend anyone get a personalized manicure from his practice because the cost of getting a personalized appointment can be prohibitive.”
When you look at the prices, the quality of services are quite good, and you don’t have to worry about paying for anything.
You can choose the one that you want,” he added.
